Fairway Forward

Practical Support • Private Golf Simulator • No Sport Experience Required • Registered Mental Health Professional

Range Therapy is a new way to access counselling through Nipissing Counselling Solutions in collaboration with The Clubhouse in North Bay.

Sessions take place in a private simulator bay and are designed for people who may feel more comfortable talking while doing something familiar, active, and low-pressure.

A Community Partnership with Purpose

The Clubhouse recognizes traditional counselling environments don’t work for everyone. That’s why it partnered with Nipissing Counselling Solutions to create Fairway Forward.

Donating 10 hours of simulator time each month, The Clubhouse helps support Range Therapy and expand access to mental health services in our community. Together, we’re creating a more approachable path to support.

What is Range Therapy?

Range Therapy combines professional counselling with the relaxed setting of an indoor golf simulator. Instead of meeting in a traditional office, clients meet with a mental health professional in a private bay at The Clubhouse.

You can talk, hit balls, pause, reflect, or simply use the space to make the conversation feel less formal. At the range, the focus is still therapy, but the setting just makes it easier to start.

Who's It For?

Range Therapy is built for people who want support, but don't love the "therapy office feeling."

Many people find it easier to open up when they’re doing something familiar, active, or less formal.

Range Therapy was created for those who may feel more comfortable talking in a golf simulator environment than a traditional counselling office, making the first step into therapy feel more approachable.

What Happens in a Session?

Range Therapy combines counselling with a golf simulator environment. Whether you’re hitting balls or simply talking, the goal is to create a setting where conversation feels more natural.

You can expect a private simulator bay, one-on-one counselling, optional golf activity, and office-based follow-up when needed.

What Can This Help With?

Like other counselling approaches, Range Therapy can support concerns such as stress, burnout, confidence, anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, life transitions, work pressures, and first responder or military-related stress.

What's Better Suited to Office-Based Therapy?

Some concerns are better suited to office-based or virtual therapy, including EMDR, intensive trauma work, crisis intervention, and other therapies requiring a traditional clinical setting. When appropriate, clients can transition to office-based or virtual counselling through Nipissing Counselling Solutions.

Matt McGillvray, CD, MSW, RSW

Matt is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist. He is not a golf instructor, swing coach, or PGA professional. In fact, if you came looking for golf tips, there’s a good chance you’ll leave with fewer than you started with.

What Matt does bring is extensive experience helping people navigate stress, burnout, anxiety, relationships, confidence, life transitions, and the challenges that come with being human.

Range Therapy combines professional counselling with a more relaxed environment for people who might find a traditional therapy office intimidating, uncomfortable, or simply not their style.

The golf simulator is optional. The conversation isn’t. The goal is helping you move forward, one session at a time.
